Our Activities Philosophy

Activities at Aspen House are designed specifically for residents who have Alzheimer's disease or some form of dementia. It is our belief that persons with dementia are no different from others in that they have the potential to suffer from loneliness, helplessness and boredom in a community living environment, but that their attention span and capabilities may be somewhat diminished. Aspen House staff will consult with residents and resident representatives to provide opportunities for social and recreational activities both within and outside the facility and shall coordinate community resources and promote resident participation in activities both in and away from the residence.

We encourage resident and resident representative participation in planning, organizing, and conducting the resident's activity program, taking into consideration the individual interests and wishes of the residents.

In determining the types of activities offered, Aspen House staff will take into account the physical, social and mental stimulation need of the residents as well as their personal and religious preferences.

Aspen House activities revolve around:

  • loving companionship and human interaction as an antidote to loneliness
  • meaningful life skills to overcome helplessness
  • variety and multiple activities to overcome boredom

Aspen House activities:

  • occur throughout the day and evening
  • are typically short in length of time
  • are designed and based on resident skills and interests
